We Have Our Marriage License!
D and I drove to PA last week to apply for our marriage license (and iron out some of the wedding details). Pennsylvania has a 3-day waiting period before a marriage license is valid - as of Sunday, August 19th, 2012, D and I are legally permitted to be married in the state of PA!

We Finally Found a Cake!
I am so excited to report that we have finally found our cake! Rebecca (the innkeeper at the Smithton Inn - we LOVE her) suggested a couple of places, but everyone wanted us to conduct business over the phone, come into the shop, etc, which is tough to do when you're having a destination wedding. Round 1 of the "great wedding cake search of 2012" was a bust, so I asked Rebecca if she could think of any other bakeries near the Inn.
One of her suggestions - Rebecca's Heavenly Goodies - is in Ephrata, so we (well, I) decided to check it out first. I went to their Facebook site (they don't have a website - boo) and absolutely loved what I saw; I shot the owner an e-mail and crossed my fingers that they would be amenable to working with us mainly though e-mail.
Success! Without divulging all of the details, Rebecca's Heavenly Cakes will be making us a 2-tier (the top tier will be our anniversary cake and the bottom tier will be served at the reception) "Ebony and Ivory" - alternating chocolate and vanilla layers - cake with cocoa silk (light chocolate mousse) between the layers. Yum! No icky fondant, either; we're going with buttercream icing so the cake is as tasty as it is gorgeous. :)
We're keeping the "outside" of the cake a semi-secret until the reception. Needless to say, it will be a reflection of both the nerdiness of D and I and our desire to keep it as simple/elegant as possible. We can't wait to see what our vision looks like in all of its wedding cake-y glory!
